WWF Danube Carpathian Programme Romania is looking for a Country Manager

WWF has been active in Romania since 2000 and is working in the framework of the regional Danube-Carpathian Programme toward securing the globally significant natural values in the region as well as developing WWF’s long-term capacity and effectiveness to promote its priorities in the country.

WWF-DCP/Romania has a team of 25 qualified and dedicated people working in three offices: Bucuresti, Brasov and Baia Mare, with a wide range of partners and using a variety of tools to engage and mobilize a movement to support nature conservation.

The Country Manager plays two major roles: she/he represents and manages the operations of WWF-DCP/Romania and leads the development of the WWF-DCP/Romania programme within the framework of the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme Strategic Plan. The Country Manager is the key person for promoting WWF initiatives in Romania and for creating and maintaining relationships with corporate partners, NGOs, institutions and public authorities.

The Country Manager reports to the Managing Director of the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme based in Vienna, works in close cooperation with the thematic Team Leaders of the regional programme (Danube/Freshwater; Carpathians, Forests and Protected Areas; and Policy) and maintains working relationships with the WWF network.

The ideal candidate should be highly responsible, creative and motivated to lead a conservation organization. She/he should have very good people skills and management abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Knowledge: Advanced technical qualifications or university degree with over 8 years experience or post-graduate qualification with 5 years experience. The Country Manager should have a good knowledge of programme management, financial planning and budgeting, fundraising and communications as well as human resource management and have an understanding of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues particularly with regard to Romania and the Danube-Carpathian Region.

2. Experience:

Proven experience in managing teams. Proven experience in budgeting and operational administration.

3. Skills and Abilities:

Proven ability to manage interdisciplinary professional staff. Diplomatic and personal skills to work with a broad array of individuals from a variety of backgrounds and in an international and multi-cultural environment. Excellent oral and written communications skills in both English and Romanian. Proven ability to fundraise and manage funds.
