The draft of the new Forestry Code has been submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests by the project coordination team, but its final form has not been made public on the platform dedicated to the project yet. We request the authorities to make these proposals public in order to understand whether the strategic action directions, assumed by the Government through the National Strategy for Forests 2030 (SNP30) less than eight months ago, are respected.
It would not be fair, from the perspective of the stakeholders involved in the entire process, if these proposals are made public only after the Emergency Ordinance draft.
WWF Romania has already drawn attention to the fact that the first draft submitted for public consultation contains a series of important deviations from the principles of sustainable forest management. The reforms of the forestry sector in Romania are rewritten with a different vision which, in our opinion, goes against society’ legitimate interests.
