Maramures now has a dedicated video within the Danube Wood(s) Route project. Produced by WWF-Romania, it highlights the local specificity of the “wood civilization.” In addition, the region is featured in the official web application of the route and included in the European promotional film of the project.
The footage brings into focus the carved gates, wooden churches, households and crafts that define the identity of the place. In Maramures, wood is not merely a resource, but a cultural structure – embedded in architecture, the local economy and community life.
The Danube Wood(s) Route is a European project implemented together with partners from 11 countries in the Danube region. The initiative identifies and promotes territories where wood culture has deep roots, supporting the development of green cultural tourism and the high-value use of wood.
In this context, WWF-Romania contributed to the region’s inclusion in the route and to the development of a national strategy for the Cultural Wood Route, aimed at strengthening local partnerships and promoting forest-based cultural heritage.
Watch the dedicated video and discover the story of a place where wood continues to shape community life.
