Senior Communication Officer


(full-time, based in Braşov, Caraş-Severin, Hunedoara or Timişoara)


The Senior Communication Officer contributes to the mission of the organization by engaging relevant strategic stakeholders and the general public to understand, promote and support rewilding in Romania and the South-Western Carpathians.

Stakeholders that are influencing the capacity of WWF and its partners to achieve rewilding will be particularly targeted, to foster an enabling policy and economic environment for rewilding. This includes showcasing the rewilding efforts and impact on the ground to an international audience as well (social media, press).

Your duties will include:

  • Developing communication strategy for the rewilding landscape, including a strategic analysis of key stakeholders and setting of clear goals, objectives and deliverables of this strategy.
  • Ensuring the delivery of the Communication Strategy through a Communication Action Plan, by carrying out the daily communication activities and tools in close coordination with the team leader and team members (in due time).
  • Ensuring synergies with the Communications Managers of WWF Romania’s Central Team and Rewilding Europe’s Central Team and with the communication colleagues in the other rewilding areas of Rewilding Europe’s network.
  • Responsible for planning and organizing communication/promotion/media events at local (and national levels.
  • Active participation in planning and budgeting for communication, promotion and outreach of the rewilding landscape at the European level;
  • Very active in the engagement and relationship building & management with local partners and stakeholders in the rewilding landscape who are critical for the success of the initiative, according to the Communication Strategy.
  • Responsible for the content of relevant information on wwf.ro according to WWF Romania brand guideline and for rewilding-southern-carpathians.com (in development) according to Rewilding Europe’s brand guidelines.
  • Responsible for developing of the rewilding landscape’s presence in social media such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram as part of the integrated social media content strategy of WWF Romania and Rewilding Europe.
  • PR: writing and planning press releases and building relationships with local journalists and bloggers or with journalists relevant for rewilding.
  • Publications: writing, editing and translating communications materials such as articles, interviews, news, presentations, different project publications (reports, studies, etc.)
  • Events: planning and organizing stakeholder engagement/external promotion/media events at local and national level; supporting the organization and participates in various other events such as team meetings, stakeholder meetings, workshops, trainings, seminars, field trips, street events, etc.;
  • Monitoring: ensuring regular media monitoring for the projects and campaigns (based on media monitoring daily alerts), keeping colleagues in WWF and Rewilding Europe informed on burning/hot issues/developments in fields of interest and (jointly) prepares reactions where necessary;
  • Partnerships: seeking and creating partnerships with other WWF offices, Rewilding Europe’s network, other NGOs and public or commercial entities in order to meet or expand impact, to increase reach of messages, add new and relevant expertise to WWF and Rewilding Europe initiatives, or to test new channels of public engagement/awareness; working in close collaboration with service providers such as advertising agencies, programmers and publishing houses.

We expect from you:

  • Adhere to the WWF mission, as well LIVES in line with the WWF Values: Courage, Integrity, Respect and Collaboration

  Knowledge:

  • University Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or other related field is necessary
  • Native language Romanian; fluently in English, oral and written
  • Computer literacy and experience with website management
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, familiarity with the latest digital technologies and Social media trends

   Experience:

  • At least 3-year experience in communication – both strategic and operational – ideally with a journalism/PR background, extensive communication and PR experience in projects related to conservation;
  • At least 3 years of experience in text writing and editing;
  • Knowledge and experience in development / translating of communication products, such as brochures, leaflets, AV shows, PowerPoint-presentations
  • Experience in working in international marketing and communications teams, work in cross-cultural setting and with an understanding of local issues and contexts

  • Personal field passion and experience of nature, a lust for the wild and a keen interest in wildlife and field ecology. Good knowledge about communication and media. Well-developed contacts with media circles (local and national);
  • Excellent creative writing skills in Romanian and English aimed at a wide audience;
  • Excellent social skills, experience communication at various levels (national and local) and to various audiences (environmental, business, tourism, general);
  • Excellent presentation skills.
