WWF-Romania is seeking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic
Freshwater Expert
The Freshwater Expert supports the efforts to protect and restore freshwater ecosystems and their services in Romania by ensuring effective implementation of freshwater-related activities.
The position holder contributes to the WWF Romania’s missions and objectives, by supporting WWF Romania Freshwater Manager in managing the ongoing projects and advocating for good governance at national level that will improve the integration of freshwater conservation principles and solutions into relevant policies and better implementation of existing legislation and regulations, especially regarding high impact sectors.
Your duties will include:
üSupporting the implementation of the WWF Romania’s freshwater strategy and projects on rivers and floodplain restoration measures (especially in the Lower Danube and Danube Delta);
üEngaging the local communities and other stakeholders in initiating, developing, and implementing Nature-based Solutions as a measure for coping with water issues (floods and droughts);
üSupporting policy and advocacy work with expertise for improving the freshwater-related legislation framework;
üCoordinating the externalized activities assigned to the position (cost estimate, preparing the necessary documents for tendering, contracting, monitoring, and payment, etc);
üSupporting specific communication actions, e.g. draft information material, facilitate events, etc;
üSupporting the development of new freshwater-related projects planned to be submitted to different donors;
üRepresenting WWF and relevant projects, topics on events, conferences, and workshops related to the field of expertise.
üIn line with the overall Strategic Plan, contributing to the annual work plans with clear priorities, and ensuring their efficient implementation in the field of expertise.
üEnsuring good exchange and communication of freshwater-related information within WWF and liaising with key external partners as necessary;
Supporting the WWF RO freshwater team on other tasks as required
We expect from you:

Knowledge:
üUniversity degree (Bachelor’s/ Masters level or equivalent) inNatural sciences (Hydrology, Ecology, Biology, Geography, etc) or some discipline relevant to freshwater-related work;
üDemonstrated knowledge and understanding on freshwater topics and of Romanian and EU policies and legislation.
üExcellent command of written and spoken Romanian and English
üComputer literacy
Experience:
üAt least 3 years of working experience in positions with similar responsibilities;
üExperienced in working with different/difficult people and in different/difficult environments;
üProven experience in writing position papers, background documents;
