Danube Delta Coordinator

(Full time position, based in Tulcea or Bucharest)

 

The Danube Delta coordinator contributes to the WWF Romania’s missions and objectives, through supporting WWF Romanian Freshwater Manager in the development and implementation of projects in the Danube delta aiming to protect and develop sustainable management of the delta, as well as demonstrate the benefits of nature-based solutions to in order to improve biodiversity and ensure the local communities’ wellbeing. 

The position holder supports the efforts to protect and restore freshwater ecosystems and their services in the Danube Delta for the benefit of nature and local communities.

    Your duties will include:

  • Contributing to the further development of the WWF Danube Delta Strategic Plan, objectives, activities, and implementation work plans;
  • Engaging, developing, and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders and networks relevant for the Danube Delta program;
  • Planning, developing new projects, preparing project proposals together with relevant WWF team members and stakeholders;
  • Implementing the Danube Delta related projects and activities;
  • Contributing to WWF Romania’s awareness-raising, policy debates, and discussions ensuring spreading the conservation measures;
  • Liaising with thematic specialists (like Sturgeon, policy, climate, communication teams) from the WWF team in Romania and region to maximize the outputs for Danube Delta work, use lessons learned, and ensure linkages with local activities;
  • Managing the existing WWF assets dedicated to conservation work in the Danube Delta (e.g. boats, monitoring devices, etc);
  • Representation: representing the organization at the local level, in meetings and events
  • Communication: participating in communication activities, acting as spokesperson when asked by the line manager;

We expect from you:

 Knowledge: 

  • University degree or Master's degree in Natural sciences, Economy, or other relevant disciplines;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of project management and project development;
  • Understanding of Danube Delta’s significant water and biodiversity-related problems, governance, integrated planning procedures, stakeholder involvement, socio-economics, and sustainable development issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Romanian and English

 Experience: 

  • At least 5 years professional experience in positions with similar responsibilities
  • Proven experience of writing position papers, background documents

  • self-confidence, treating endeavors easily, experienced in working with different people, in challenging environment, reliable teammate, team player;
  • good communication skills with the ability to transmit key messages in order to be embraced by the audience;
