Full-time, up to 2 years fixed-term contract, maternity leave replacement, based in Bucharest

The Climate & Energy Communication Manager contributes to the mission of the organization by ensuring effective implementation and initiation of awareness-building activities to maximize the impact of conservation projects.

The position holder will also be responsible for promoting the conservation mission and actions, from a Climate & Energy perspective, in order to raise the interest and engagement of potential supporters as well as delivering conservation stories for fundraising and corporate partnerships.

The Climate & Energy Communication Manager will report to the Climate & Energy Conservation Manager and will collaborate closely with the Brand Communication Manager. The Climate & Energy Communication Manager will be the liaison with WWF CEE and WWF International on Climate &Energy communication related topics.

Your duties will include:

I. Implementation of communication activities from projects

The Climate & Energy Communication Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and reporting of communication activities within projects. 

  • Understanding the needs of the project and executing specific activities [content writing, website updates, project briefs and white papers, event invitations, newsletters, press releases]
  • Hiring and managing external collaborators or part time resources to deliver on specific activities (contracting / briefing / supervise delivery / ensure quality and timely delivery / payments). The implementation of the solution must meet objectives, deliver results and keep the financing body happy.
  • Planning activities and projects well in advance and taking into account possible changing circumstances
  • Managing time effectively
  • Monitoring performance against deadlines and milestones
  • Contributing to new project writing
  • Understanding and communicating WWF's activity from the perspective of Climate, Biodiversity and Energy
  • Writing of stories and media releases [content creation]
  • Communicating about conservation projects at internal level
  • Providing relevant conservation content/stories for brand communication
  • Helping Individual and Corporate Fundraising to identify the fundraising potential and building fundraising stories
  • Developing or contributing to new project ideas, based on achieved results/as a follow-up to finalised projects or seizing new opportunities;
  • Events [online/offline]: planning and organising stakeholder engagement/external promotion/media events at local and national level
  • Keeping abreast of developments and innovations in the field of communications/marketing and importing relevant tools/ideas in order to reach and engage with (new) audiences
  • Risk assessment and crisis management communication

II. Representation [spokesperson, relationship building]

  • Building relationships with key stakeholders from Climate & Energy communication: local community representatives, authorities, influencers, media
  • Providing relevant content
  • Participating in interviews, events, etc.

III. Financial responsibilities

  • Preparing implementation budgets, obtaining all costs of resources needed and discussing it with Climate & Energy Conservation Manager
  • Supervising the implementation process so that the budget is respected
  • Approving supplier payments according to budget
  • Developing cost estimates, the documents necessary for issuing invoices (memos, orders, delivery reports, activity reports) & contract annexes for medium or big projects
  • Supplier contract & annexes

 Knowledge: 

  • University Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or other related field is necessary. Master degree in any of these fields is an advantage

  Experience: 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in communications and/or marketing, working in one of the following areas: brand management / client service / PR / digital content
  • Previous involvement in the implementation of projects funded by the EU or other similar funds, as well as project or people management is a plus.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Romanian and English.
  • Ability to participate effectively in interdisciplinary teams and build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners, active listening skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to strategically coordinate the work of potential subordinate colleagues.
  • Analytical skills and strategic thinking, ability to deal with problems characterized by complexity, urgency and uncertainty in a structured, systematic and efficient way.
  • Correct understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of climate change and the just energy transition.
  • Ability to think creatively and holistically.
  • Ability to analyse and manipulate qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Good knowledge of using Microsoft Office operating systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Windows; of photo/video editing programs InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop/ Canva, experience using a variety of databases acquired through training and work experience. Demonstrated ability to successfully design and implement online social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube) and SEO and offline campaigns.
